This Week In Altcoin Launches - April 26, 2014 - May 2, 2014

This week in Altcoin launches has been very busy..

This Week In Altcoin Launches

In all, there were over 10 new Cryptocurrencies to hit the scene - let us recap.

Saturday April 26, 2014:

House Of Coins - (HOC) - Instead of offering an IPO to interested parties, HOC allowed people to purchase a House seat and reap the rewards of their investment. The ‘dev’ never even bothered to provide a Coin logo for the crypto and brought in an astounding 18.98082686 BTC, which granted membership rights to their coin forum. The Announcement thread hasn’t went up in flames just yet, but if it’s even loosely based on Government - or the series House Of Cards - you can be sure that the ‘red tape’ will start causing problems in ‘The House’ soon enough.

Jackpot Coin - (JPC) - This Altcoin promised to award miners a “Jackpot” for finding reward blocks. As of this writing the difficulty for mining the coin was 84.21 so miners might have better luck just buying some scratch off tickets and hoping for the best. Regardless, cryptominers are putting hash power to it.

But not every BitCoinTalk member is convinced about the viability of the coin. liomojo1 posted  “So we have to sell everything we got , cause there will be inflation after such a big amount of money? Huh?”

AlterEgoCoin - (AEC) - Alter Ego Coin also featured an IPO. But did it even launch?

BitcoinTalk member kondiomir asked  “So the coin is launched or no?”

To which DailyModo replied “Its never a good thing when you have to ask your self this question. I was waiting for the launch but im out now.”

The thread is declared a ‘S*** Coin’ on the last post.

Sunday April 27, 2014

CornerstoneCoin - (CCX) - This Altcoin is a Scrypt PoW/PoS. In the short seven days it’s made little headway.

Some participants are declaring it dead - although the dev states “CornerstoneCoin is not dead. It is very much alive and vibrant. Wink Only 13 more days to POS!”

His statement was met with the following, “what a waste coin.. sold my 6 M. Dev - fck urself for wasting people’s hash & time.”

Wednesday April 30, 2014

500Coin - (FHC) - According to the OP, a rare 500 coins would be produced in this run. Trouble is it didn’t go down as planned and the the thread has been archived. So much for this one.

UniversityCoin - (UVC) - Another POW/POS coin launch that couldn’t get it right - even with two launches.

Worse yet, the ‘devs’ couldn’t figure out - or care enough - to delete the “Old Coin” thread, as MLord101 points out “IF DEV’S CAN’T FIGURE OUT HOW TO KILL THE OLD COIN THREAD, OR AT LEAST MAKE THIS ONE THE #1 ON GOOGLE SEARCH. THIS COIN IS DEAD.”

May 1, 2014

GunCoin - (GUN) - This cryptocurrency was developed for gun enthusiasts. While no one appears to have gotten their heads shot off with this one - yet - time will tell if this coin makes the cut.

Electronic Lire - (LIRE) An X11 with and  IPO and 50% premine that represented Italy. Since it’s still a relatively new coin, there aren’t many scam accusations in the thread yet, but people are starting to ask about distribution and are worrying about ‘dumpers’ of the coin.

I would personally wonder about the use of the word ‘LIRE’ (even if it’s spelled wrong) being the symbol.

Emirates Coin - Shortly after the launch was supposed to happen, the ‘dev’ entered the BTCtalk thread and said ‘lunch was soon.’

As it turns out, he took the 23 BTC and enjoyed Surf and Turf. The waitress probably got a nice tip too - or maybe not.

May 2, 2014

CapitalCoin - (CPTL) - This launch was so stealth it went unnoticed - if it even happened at all.

FacebookCoin - (FBC) - FacebookCoin was met with resistance prior to the scheduled launch, but ‘the dev’ hasn’t given up hope on the coin. The launch has been re-scheduled to take place on May 5, 2014.

FutureCoin - (KFC) - FutureCoin’s innovation is the future. Like you have to wait 2 weeks for blocks to confirm - but ‘devs’ are still accepting IPO funds today. Brings to mind one of my favorite cartoon characters, J. Wellington Wimpy - “I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”

And last, but not least:

Mjollnircoin - (MNR) - This ASIC coin with an IPO didn’t even make it out of the gate.

This from ‘the devs’ in the OP, “It seems we are in for a bumpy ride. The coin was accidentally forked due to the GPU miner hash rate right from the start. The first block will now be hardcoded to prevent future forks and then the coin will be relaunched. We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes.

As of this writing, there’s no word on when the re-launch will be and 3 people are out 2.346 BTC.

As you can see, this week has been a fun and frivolous launch week for everyone involved.

We’ll keep you posted on more developments as they become available.

So many coins it seems, but in a year it’ll probably be 100 new coins every week. It seems to me that the only ones that will survive and prosper are the ones that build up a community around them.

So true, and thanks for stopping by and commenting. Of course it’s likely more and more people will launch more and more altcoins, and they definitely won’t survive without strong backing from dedicated people. That’s just how it is :)

      You’re right about that.
In light of the AsiaCoin debacle, it’s going to be more important for community members to scrutinize and evaluate these coins before they’re adapted. This is “use at your own risk” territory..
